The Waymakers Employee Experience Diagnostic Tool

Our proprietary Employee Experience Diagnostic Tool is the MRI of employee experience, providing you with a clear, nuanced, and instructive understanding of your employees’ experiences inside your workplace.

  • Validated. 40 statements based on four critical talent needs, corroborated and explicated by The Waymakers narrative inquiry study conducted in partnership with award-winning human behavior and strategy firm Brandtrust.
  • Employee-centric, intersectional, and nuanced. Understand the degree to which various talent groups feel seen, respected, valued, and protected and which experiences are most prevalent and painful.
  • Instructive. Identifies specific norms, choices, and behaviors that enhance or detract from a healthy employee-employer relationship.
  • Predictive. Helps pinpoint and prioritize action against the experience drivers most likely to impact talent attraction, belonging, retention, and creativity.

The Bridge to Aspiration

Use this practical tool in partnership with others to better define the skills and abilities in play today, the preferred future destination—a new role or level, or even a different kind of work—and the skills, knowledge, relationships, experiences, and behaviors it will take to get there. Case Studies

ADVANCING MULTICULTURAL WOMEN

We showed our global CPG client The Way to identify and remove barriers to career advancement for underrepresented talent which positively impacted the business health outcomes of retention and promotion.

ENABLING ERG SUCCESS

How can organizations show their commitment to making a way for everyone? We showed our global aerospace client The Way to cultivate a sense of belonging by co-creating an identity with their ERG leaders. We helped them open doors for opportunity by providing a direct link to power networks. We enabled efficiency and best practice implementation by creating forums for sharing ideas and results. Through these efforts we improved accountability for all, including executives.

SPONSORING FOR GROWTH

The Way to ensuring employees feel seen, respected, valued, and protected is through building relationships—especially across boundaries. Our healthcare client invested in building cross-boundary relationships and saw increases in visibility and opportunity for underrepresented talent as well as increased leader confidence and competence specific to advocacy.

DEVELOPING DIVERSE TALENT

The Way to develop talent equitably is to "make it plain." For our global communications technology client, we designed a four-month, four-module program to expose high-potential talent to business insights, facilitate meaningful exposure to power networks, and create opportunities to enhance strategic thinking, communication, and organizational problem solving. The result was talent who felt more supported, more connected, and more ready to lead at the company.

Managing the Dialogue

Understand the four types of contributors in any emotionally charged discussion so you can respond accordingly.

The confident contributor is a person with high openness and high knowledge of the subject.  They have done their own research and have at least a fundamental grasp on the topic.  They will often engage with both humility and transparency because they realize they are on a  learning journey. Their comments are often instructive and insightful. Amplify these voices to  further the conversation.

Inelegant curiosity is exactly that and describes those who are open to learning but have low  knowledge of the subject. They may ask questions that make them sound awkward or ill-informed (because they are). Reward the openness that gives way to inelegant curiosity  because most people are in this quadrant, and many are attempting to become more  knowledgeable about topics they’ve not had to think much about.

Misguided conjecture is a term we coined to explain the contributions of people who feel  confident in their assertions about a topic but have already made up their minds about it.  Their opinions are often incomplete or biased. When facilitating, you can ask questions to  better understand where they’re coming from while inviting them to think more critically  and broadly about their positions.

Disrespectful disruptors are people who don’t know much about the topic and don’t want to.  They may resent being in the conversation In the first place and intend to dismiss or disregard  others’ needs or concerns. In these cases, diffuse the negative energy and, if that doesn’t work,  dismiss the individual or risk compromising your purpose and the psychological safety of  others in the space.

The Bridge to Aspiration

The Bridge to Aspiration is a practical tool you can use for yourself and in partnership with others to better define the skills and abilities in play today, the preferred destination—whether it be a role or a level or even a different kind of work—and the skills, knowledge, relationships, experience and behaviors it will take to get there.

The more specific the path forward is, the more easily you can make a way.
